Thank you from your winner, Sinéad

Hi again everyone,

First of all, I just want to say, WOW! Taking part in I’m a Scientist: Get me out of here! for the last two weeks has been just amazing. I have loved every moment of it, and already miss the chats and the questions that you guys submitted. You, the students are the reason I entered the competition. I want to communicate the importance of Science to everyone who will listen to me and you guys gave me the perfect opportunity. I also wanted to make people aware that every single one of us is capable of studying Science, and I really hope I have inspired some of you to study Science in the future, and not just study Science but also enjoy Science.

I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in the competition. The organisers who did such an amazing job of setting up this great competition. The moderators who helped out with the chats and your teachers for booking the chats and encouraging you guys to ask us lots of questions. The questions were amazing and I also learned a lot over the last two weeks, so thank you for that.I would also like to thank the Institute of Physics who funded the Nanotechnology Zone. I would like to thank my colleagues in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute, DCU and CRANN, TCD for all their encouragement along the way, and to my supervisors, Prof Anthony J. Killard (BDI) and Prof. Martin Hegner (TCD) for giving me the opportunity to carry out research in such an exciting area.

I cannot thank you guys enough for voting for me as your winner, I am really really grateful. I already have my thinking cap on for my workshop that I will set-up with the prize money and thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do this. It is because you guys voted that I can do this.

I am passionate about Science Communication and I plan to keep spreading the word of Science near and far.

Thank you all again for the last two weeks, for all your great questions and your enthusiasm. It has been one of the best experiences of my life.

Sinéad 🙂
