Interesting question. I actually don’t remember! I know I got slightly fewer points than were needed for the course I wanted to do (Theoretical Physics) and I had already accepted my second choice (Mathematics) when I got a letter through the door from the CAO asking if I still wanted to do my first choice. And I did! I am really lucky.

I did very well, but you’d be surprised how little that matters once you’re in college or in a job. Of course you want to get the points you need to get into your course but I know people who barely made it into college because they were bad at some of the mandatory subjects like maths and Irish but then went on to get really prestigious prizes in their college subjects which were subjects they actually enjoyed. So don’t let that chase for the points that they always tell you about in school spoil your fun time in school.
Also, in my case I kind of cheated: Being native German I got an easy A1 in that subject.

      You know…I’m not sure either.

I know I did well, but I don’t remember the number,

Once you get the course you want it’s suddenly not important anymore, you’re here for one thing, like Science, so nobody’s really pushed how you did in English and vice versa.

(But remember, it is important before you get there!)

      Hi Saoirse,
I don’t remember either exactly. I do however remember adding my points up and I thought I didn’t get the points I wanted for Science, so I added them again, and thankfully the first time I added them wrong. I just remember screaming with excitement knowing I got my first choice to go to UCC and woke up my two month old sleeping soundly nephew…woops, but now he’s 8 and loves that I’m a Scientist and came to see me talk at Thesis in Three competition and I was so happy that I made him proud 🙂

      Hope this helps 🙂
