The one and only time I dissected anything was in 2nd year science. We were dissecting sheep’s hearts. I remember clearly my thoughts on the matter:

“This muscle is really difficult to cut through. I’d better get my lab partner to do it for me.”

      And I did.

I’m not a particularly sentimental person. I want all animals to be treated kindly but I do eat meat and I try not to be a hypocrite. Once an animal is dead it’s dead and cutting up it’s organs for science and nutrition is fine by me.

I think it is a useful way to learn about the anatomy of something… for other people.

Personally I cannot dissect anything. It’s really frustrating, but I had trouble taking apart a fish in school. I have no trouble with blood but slimy intestines are just not for me.

      It scares me.

But mostly that’s because I’m clumsy and probably not good with knives!

It doesn’t bother me too much, but that said I haven’t had to do since secondary school.

My friends over in Biology who use animals say it’s not all that pleasant, but you get used it, and it becomes just a part of your day.

I think dissecting is necessary for anyone in the medical field to understand exactly how the human body works, and Vets dissect animals to learn all about how the animals bodies work!
It really is a very interesting thing to do and you learn so much by doing things and seeing them for yourself!
We wouldn’t have people like surgeons carrying out lifesaving operations everyday if it weren’t for dissections.
